Friday Frugal Findings - 8th April 2011

We here at Reaper Towers know that times are hard and friends are few, so with that in mind we’re offering a you a helping hand and hopefully saving you a few shekels to boot by bringing you some of the best prices on the net this week, with some new releases and some oldies but goldies.

Rift; PC at Amazon UK
£18.97/21.50 Euro

Advertised with the tag-line “Your not in Azeroth anymore” makes us think Trion Worlds must fancy their chances taking on the mighty Blizzard in the MMO market. With some good reviews already behind it, it might be worth a punt for the price.

Mass Effect; Xbox 360 at Amazon UK
£9.91/11.22 Euro

If you missed this the first time around then you’re a massive idiot, but never fear for just under a Tenner you can stop friends and family shunning you and people pointing at you in the street. Do yourself a favour and catch up with arguably one of the best titles released in the last 20 years.

Tales of Monkey Island; PC at Amazon UK
£17.33/19.63 Euro

The Mother of all adventure games returns in a blazed of white hot glory, with all five of the downloadable episodes in one package released today.

Dead Space 2; PS3 at Game
£20.98/23.76 Euro

Continue Isaac Clarke’s “poo ya pants” adventures with the Necromorph. This edition from Game also includes exclusive content. Don’t play it with the lights off, you’ve been warned.

Metroid: Other M; Wii at Gamestation
£14.99/16.98 Euro

The series much loved by Nintendo-ists for many years continues, this time with Samus in a 1st and 3rd person release.

Demons Souls; PS3 at Amazon UK
£16.72/18.94 Euro

A truly hardcore RPG were death is inevitable, but not final. A PS3 exclusive with a very different slant on multiplayer, well worth the money.

Tomb Raider Trilogy; PS3 at Game
£17.98/20.36 Euro

Three games, guns, shorts, acrobatics and Lara for under a score. Enough said.

Brunswick Pro Bowling Kinect Compatible; Xbox 360 at Amazon UK
£23.99/27.17 Euro

All the fun of bowling without the risk of a fungal foot infection.

Xbox avatar RPG game - Get your swords out for the lads!!

Check this shit out... Coming soon to the XBL indie channel is a new game called - 'Avatar Legends' from developer 'Barker's Crest'. Guess who the star of the game is... no not some big blue naked freak, you are!! Well, your XBL Avatar that is. As you will see in the vid below you are put into an RPG environment where ya kick some mythical ass, meet NPC's and level up. Its no Dragons Age but looks like allot of potential fun. Its boasting to have a ten hour single player campaign with co-op for up to six players and a separate multi player portion (Check here for full details). Sounds great eh. Plus there is a level editor that will allow you to create your own version of hell and share it with the world... so get ready for more 'penis world' levels - its going to happen, you know it! All in all this is looking like a fab idea and a good use to put your lil avatar too instead of just dressing it up like a barbie icon. It also justifies that Bobba fett suit I bought awhile back... If its successful over on the indie channel the it should come to the masses on XBLA soon. Doubt there will be any Dragon Age style sexy bits though... awww.

L.A Noir- Corruption trailer - Damed dirty cops!

Check out the latest vid for L.A Noir below, its the 'Corruption' trailer, as in cops with their hands in your pockets... sounds dirty eh... well it is! It will take our hero 'Cole Phelps' and his Irish boss to stamp it out, they are clean cops and don't like fondling the inside of anybody's pockets... perhaps just their own I guess... Anyway I can smell a whole bunch of movie moments like from 'The Untouchables' on the way, cant wait to shout at the screen 'Only a wop would bring a knife to a gunfight' in a Irish/Scottish accent - then blow the durrtyy bastich away!!

Mass Effect 3 - First Official Details

Bioware have announced the first details of what we can expect to see in the third and final instalment in their Sci-Fi Action RPG series. According to the US magazine, Game Informer, Mass Effect 3 will pick up from the recently released DLC Arrival , which we won’t spoil for you here just in case you haven’t gotten around to it yet, what we can tell you however is that a number of our favourite squad mates will be returning (or at least if you haven’t gotten them killed) including Liara T'Soni, Kaidan Alenko and Ashley Williams, with hopes for more awkwardly animated sexual shenanigans, as well as Wrex, Garrus, Mordin and Legion although there is no confirmation if these old faces will be able to join your squad. There is also some bloke called James Sanders, leading to much speculation to whether he may be a relation of the heroine of the Mass Effect novels Kahlee Sanders, or perhaps the New England Patriots American Football player? OK, maybe not him. We are also very pleased to hear that Martin Sheen will be returning as the Illusive Man, who by all accounts is now trying to kill Shepard. In somewhat of a return to the original Mass Effect, weapon mods are making a comeback with interchangeable scopes, barrels, clips and alike, changing both the look and feel of your favourite alien dispatcher. RPG elements have also been expanded upon including a larger skill tree and powers which can be evolved several more times. Of course as expected, there are to be multiple ends as previously seen in the first two games of the series which are influenced by your choices as you progress. Some maybe disappointed to hear that there will be no Multiplayer for the final game but Bioware have said that it may appear in future spin-offs. Mass Effect 3 is due to be released Q4 2011 on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

CD Projekt Red have released some tantalizing new screenshots for you to cast your brain windows on. With a rumoured 16 different endings this one is shaping up to be an RPG epic. The Witcher 2 - Assassins of Kings is scheduled for release on the 17th of May 2011 on PC.

Call of Duty - Black Ops - New DLC coming soon!

Here we go again, another multi player map pack for Black Ops... the last one (First Strike) wasn't bad if a tad (allot) overpriced. The new second pack - 'Escalation' looks like it will have about four maps and a zombie mode level - Seize the Zoo - Take the Hotel - Secure the Convoy and Raid the Stockpile with the possible zombie one being - Survive Call of the Dead. So that's a fairly big map pack but it would be nice if they supported some single player action too... or even some co-op type thing, arg!

Its coming on May 3rd (2011) to Xbox and soon after for PS3 and PC. The price? Well no official word on that yet but I can bet its going to be at least 1200 msp - unless Activision have seen the error of their ways and decide to charge a fair price... actually they might charge 1600msp. Greedy fookers! We will update you with more on this when we get it... for free!

Saints Row 3 - Hit em in the Daddy Bag!

Yep, that's right, our favourite GTA rip off is coming back for a third time and is due later this year (Q4 2011). This is sure to please the SR fan club but do the rest of us really give a toss? I suppose we have to see if they do anything great with this version other than add new cars, colours, characters and all the usual crap. In the meantime check out the trailer below, this new feature is quite... painful to watch. Eeek!
