Dead Space 2 - Kinect style!!

Ok, so the game for the Kinect have been overall... pretty crap! But as I keep saying, give developers time and some of the good games out there could benefit, and here is an example. Not quite the great vision I was imagining but its a start... Unfortunately it is not done by the developers, its a home brew job and therefore a possible bullshit video, that said - I don't see why it couldn't be legit either. Liking the stomp action! Check out the vid below for yourself... and developers - Hurry the Fuck up!!

Oi Fatty!! Play a game and lose some weight!!

There are allot of 'Fitness' games out at the moment to counteract all the pizza and mountain dew gobbling gamer habits, but are they any good? Well G4 looked into this and the results are interesting, check out the vid below. You may just be surprised at the results... It doesn't hurt that the chick in this is hot either! Now, where did I leave that Twinkie and my smokes... hmm.

Kinect - Your Face is the Controller...

In case you haven't heard, Xbox will be releasing 'Avatar Kinect' soon (see second video below). This will basically be a chat show environment where your avatar will simulate all your real life gestures and movements, including facial expressions and lip syncing. The vid below shows a basic overview of how this works and is worth a quick watch. The Kinect is turning out to be a very clever bit of kit but there is a serious lack of good games for it at present. As I've always said the potential is great and this bit of facial mimicking only adds to that but if there are no good games to support it then that's all it is, a clever bit of kit. Oi - Microsoft, start making some good games for this please!!

Kinect Launch Ireland & Initial Impressions

Some of the Reaper Gaming team recently attended the Kinect Launch in Dublin. Much fun was had by the Reaper crew (a little too much free alcohol fun for one ExcitingAlien). Being the shy basement dwelling types, we decided to just watch other people make fools of themselves and flay about like mentalists on fire. However, we did get to try out some of the Kinect launch titles, which even the hardest of hardcore gamers would have trouble denying that they're fun to play. Only time will tell whether it turns out to be a gimmick, or whether it'll actually fulfil its potential of being something truly immersive.

Below are some photos from the night. Notable attendees included Fight Like Apes, Steven Cooper (98fm), Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Gary Brennan (RTÉ's FourLive) and 'the guy with the hair from the thing that used to be the Den'. A big 'shout out' to 'Pockets' of FLA - a true retrogamer, Piaras and David at Edelman for inviting us, and our friends at Average Film Reviews & TechTV101.

We've been testing out Kinect for a short while and we'll posting our impressions in the coming days.

Tell us what you want by leaving a comment in the area below or on Facebook/Twitter, or just mail us at - ReaperGaming@gmail.com - before tomorrow night. Ask and you shall receive peeps! Oh, and yes, we will be very drunk so no big words, yipee!

Xbox Dashboard Update - Preview

Its time for another Xbox dashboard update!! I tell ya - Microsoft changes things around more often than Paris Hilton gives head... But I guess both are expected and generally beneficial for our enjoyment. Below there is a brief run through on some of the new features that gamers in the USA will be able to access, we'll let you know when a European (cut down and less impressive) version is available. This vid (courtesy of G4tv) contains a look at the new ESPN, MNBC and a few Avatr details among other bits. Nothing to blow your stained Y-fronts off but I guess over all its an improvement plus it looks different. Also theres the whole Kinect side that hasn't really been seen yet... but do you really care about that?

Kinect - Try it out in Dublin for free!!

Here's another one for the Irish!! If you are interested in Kinect and want to give it a shot then here's your chance... if you couldn be arsed that is. Xbox.IE has announced that Kinect will be going on the road as of today around various parts of Ireland: "XBOX KINECT ROADSHOW KICKS OFF AT THE NATIONAL PLOUGHING CHAMPIONSHIP this Tuesday and Wednesday. Experience the controller-free fun of Kinect for the first time this week ahead of its launch on 10th November. Xbox Kinect will also be present in Blanchardstown SC on Friday 24th September, Dundrum SC on Saturday 25th September and Pavilions SC in Swords on Sunday 26th September."
Cant say I'm all that interested myself but if you have the gumption then head along and try it out, oh... and get someone to video tape you playing so you can share your lameness with those not lucky enough to witness it first hand!

Kinect's Milo - Mad Molynuex explains more...

This is actually quite significant to gamers. Personally I couldn't be arsed jumping around in front of a camera nor playing with bouncy balls, that's cos I'm over the age of 12 and I am a gamer... But, if anything about Kinect has potential it is this 'Milo' approach. Ditch the kid and add in a Dark Spawn from Dragon Age, perhaps 'The Illusive Man' from Mass Effect 2 or a Stripper from GTA and have a chat, now are you seeing the potential? Anyway, check out Peter Molynuex's TED presentation below and make your own judgement. The bit at the end about Milos brains in the cloud server is all a bit Skynet... anyone else a lil freaked out by that? Urg!

Xbox Kinect - What will it cost?

Well the Microsoft Wii... er I mean Kinect is nearly here and we already have the new slim Xbox 360 in the shops, but what if you want both? How much will it cost ya? Before you rush out and blow your wad on the new Xbox slim now, it might be wiser to wait till the bundle comes out... if you are into the whole Kinect thing that is.

The word from Microsoft is that Kinect on its own will launch in the USA for £150, in the UK for £129 and Europe in general for €149. (For us Irish that doesn't include the usual 'Paddy Tax' that rip off Ireland is famous for adding to all products, so we shall see what that will pump up the price to!) This will also include a game, that one where ya jump around on the inflatable raft like a retard on speed...
What is being marketed as the Xbox 4GB model (no mention of the HD) and Kinect bundle, plus the retard game, is said to be $300 in the USA - £250 in the UK - €250 in Europe. Which is interesting because currently the new Xbox is already €250, without Kinect. Or is that just the old Paddy Tax at play...Hmmm.

So, bottom line is... wait and see what happens when Kinect and the bundles are released in November! In the meantime you can always dust off your Wii and prepare for Kinect... or get the cheaper PS3 'Move' setup in September... or just play some real games and ignore all this motion gaming crap. What is it all coming too, eh!?

Microsoft waves goodbye to Natal, and says Hello to Kinect!

Well, 'Project Natal' is no longer just a project. It is now a real product called 'Kinect'. So far we know that it will be released in November and has a range of launch titles that are very 'Wii' looking (vid below). There is a Star Wars game (vid below) where you get to battle Vader in a light saber duel. Not sure what to make of it all yet, is it just a sheep in wolfs clothing or has it really got some bite?

Also is the rumor that the Xbox 360 Slim will be announced and from the screen shot below from an add on the web it is looking more and more likely. News like this might be difficult to upstage for Sony but if rumours of a PS4 announcement are true then were in for one hell of a show this year... but I doubt that! We shall see when E3 opens its doors today.
